Waking Up

it's difficult
to wake up from a dream
the sudden realisation that
it was just a dream
is maddening
dreams are no more dreams
as often I watch over myself
while dreaming
it's disheartening
it's not another world
where you are happy, sad
bickering, pathetic, miserable
it's here and now
so frustrating
what you thought was attainable
is perhaps a figment of your
imagination....no more reachable
because it's not a dream any longer
it's here and now here and now
don't scream out of anger
or disappointment
it's your late realisation
that you forgot to figure out
it's no more a dream
the world knew and therefore
it never stopped moving away
taking a course different
you stagnated because
you thought it was just a dream

Footprints

I had walked up the miles
By the shores of a roaring sea
On a wistful dawn
And footprints were etched
On the carpet of sands
Earthy sketches on a canvas of gold

Years later ....
I went up to the beach
On a dazzling morn
And looked hither & thither
Footprints were none
Swept away by the unruly tides
Left were a few broken conches
Marooned sea shells & dirty corals
But no! the footprints were gone

***

You brought spring
In  greying autumn
You brought a smile
To parched lips
You brought sunshine
On melancholy days
You brought peace
To a frenzied world
You brought solace
To thudding heart
You brought dreams
To sleepless nights
You brought songs
To deafened ears
You gave life
To deadened soul

But now you are gone
And left behind
Is an empty shell
A few tear drops
And a night
Mourning in quietude
Of muted music
Of yore

Vagrant Shades

Its good that you know me not
Far apart shall echo muted pain
In intimacy, a hesitant blush
Deep, in the rush of spring
The surge of shades million
Paint the breeze melodious
Fragrant, the jewels be cherished
In dreams of a perfect mating
Glimpsed have I the
Tempest reigned in unkempt
Locks, the bohemian jazz of
Unchecked hush of whispers
Loud and the unsaid stays
Embedded in my flute tuned
To sing your songs unwritten yet
Its good that you know me not

(Inspired by this wonderful song by Tagore which can never be told in any other way....)

A Feather Soft Dream

Remembering the child hood days...

I woke up in the middle of the night
Not in fright but with a happy smile
It was such a cute little dream
Of robust puppies and cozy home
Wherein cackled a golden fire
Spreading its warmth on comfy chairs
Covered in soft, colourful drapes
A thick, plush rug lay uncreased
On white marble floor with zig-zag shapes
The walls were of beige and gold
The counter panes a subdued shade
Of snuff and brown to match the sofas
inviting and warm and the dreamy dog
Lying around in lazy stance

Suddenly I pined for all my lost toys
The doll with the bushy hair and moving eyes
The smaller one with the long, thick braid
I remember I'd named her "Pony Tail"
The baby frocks and the kid boots
And the stuffed rabbit with polka dots
Stitched by my aunt with loving care
I wanted them all back on the bed
On the floor, on the sofa, every where
Even the plastic one with the lolling head,
The dirty, rubber cat with the blue ball
Tattered and torn but I wanted them all

Oh how I wanted to rush back in time
Erase my mistakes with zeal and zest
Seal my fate with good deeds and pride
Just then, my friend, sleep hazed
I mumbled under my breath perhaps
A prayer, a wish, a thought aloud
And turned drowsily to the other side
A little wistful, a little sad,
A little broken, a little mad
But spun my mind still for a while
Childhood yearns in feathery piles
