Old And New

Old books
Old shoes
Old clothes
Old me
Old you
Old home

New words
New tales
New songs
New beginning
New secrets
New furnishings

Where do I keep my
Oldness
Amidst this bizarre
Newness
The madness of
Not knowing
Not following

At the airport
While saying goodbye ?
At the bus stop
Letting them go by ?
At the train station
Puffing up with the engine ?
At the shore ?
If the ship gets wrecked ?
Then what ?

She shakes her head
And laughs
It's the latest technology
They don't get wrecked
We have to just throw away
What we can't repair

  2. Repair ? No such thing now. We live in a throw out society. The waste is scandalous!

    1. I remember those days of yore when every piece was a one time expenditure

  3. I'm a keeper. And I like to tinker, so what I cannot fix, I convert into things of new uses. That doesn't mean I never buy new things, I just don't like waste, and I get attached to things, places, people :-)

    1. I am like you. I attach values to everything I use and keep using till they are threadbare which does not go well with the generation next.

  4. I'm with Dawn above in being a keeper. I might cry if we ever down sized. I do like new people, guess that comes from teaching.

    1. I am with you Jim. I like changes but in measured ways not total overhaul.

  5. Almost everything can get digitized/digitalized these days.

And these revamped digital possessions get corrupted. Pictures...video recordings...voice recordings...all beyond repair and very often you don't even know what you stand to lose.

And what cant be repaired you sometimes simply have to let em go without closure. And that thought makes me feel sad :(

Wonderful take. Do drop by mine :)

  9. Im very much of the mindset now, if I haven't used or worn something in couple of years, out it goes. Im more thoughtful with what I buy esp clothes, thinking do I just like it or will I actually wear it.
Cannot keep everything can we, however much we may like to.

  10. We are definitely living in a throw-out society. My mother hated food waste most of all. She was right.

  11. I don't like wasting things...though some things (like baby clothes) are most useful when passed on to others who need them, and some (like the inedible parts of food) when composted or burned. That's not waste. But I usually find at least one more use for every container before it goes into the recycling. Call me a shopping bag, plastic bottle, glass jar hoarder who will. I may have a stash of these things but I do use them.
