I Am Who

The countdown has begun
By the end of this year
I hope to be a free bird
With wings flapping
Drawing an arch across
The vastness of the sky
However I am yet to learn
How to be light enough
To take off to the clouds
How to trash the pent up
Dark mass of unwanted
Thoughts heavy on the
Shoulders which slouch
My stance and sleep within
Me when I am awake and
Wakes up to torment when
I wish "good night" to night
The learnings are ancient
The unlearning sure is not easy
Forgetting the past baffles me
Forgiveness .....I am sorry!! What?
I am yet to empty the bin
And stop filling it up again
Time in hand is too short
To sort out the clutter
To weave a new song to coo
I have to begin from the very
Beginning of knowing
And unknowing I am who?

  1. Your words and drawing made me think of a leaf floating in the air soon to settle into a new identity.

  2. Unlearning old and unhelpful patterns can be really tough! But I've always felt much easier in my soul once it's done.

    1. I feel it's time to lighten my burden. Decluttering overnight is impossible.

  3. I'm sorry you have to do a recycle of your "knowing . . . I am who."
BTW, the "I" in my poem is the writer, and hoping the reader will be empathizing with the writer and reading like he/she is stepping into the writer's shoes.

    1. When I do this, and quite often, I try to use the "Label" at to say "Fiction" to indicate it isn't me, I have never gambled for money except for penny ante when I was young and stuffed the funnies and want ads into the newspapers. We had to wait for the presses, our stuff was made up earlier.

    2. I like your leaf, backside and frontside. Dual personality.

    3. I strongly believe that the truth be told even if it is fictionalised. I mostly write from my personal experiences. Even if I don't I am somewhere there. So the reader can take whichever way he or she wants.

  4. "To sort out the clutter
    To weave a new song..."

To remake ourselves anew is a heavy task. But one we, in a way, accomplish everyday... as we add new bits to the whole we used to be.

    1. Maybe, our old song just grows... and becomes more us.

    2. Yes,we evolve everyday. If not then at least the Universe knows we want to. Thanks Magalay, it's all about growth.

  8. Yes, I like to think that our worries are like heavy weights on our shoulders. May we unlearn, and learn to draw out the best in us..:)
