Shoes And Soul

Shoes on the rack
I wish to make amends
By changing size
She holds me back
With whip in hand
Poised to strike
The lashings whine
I try in vain
To stifle the cries

Shoes on the rack
Tell me why
I can't tread beyond
The limits drawn
By that number on the sole
Are  my feet to be defined?

  1. Why, yes!! Even if it hurts! But it hurts both ways, doesn't it? Sometimes we want the shoes to streetch, sometimes we cut off parts of ourself to fit the glass slipper.

  3. I hope we are always more than a number and can define ourselves by our journey - not the shoes we wore - a sole/soulful poem ;)

  4. My feet seem to be growing fatter as I age, LOL. An interesting response to the prompt.

  9. Hmmm, whenever we wish to feel really free and liberated from that "number of the sole" we kick off our shoes and walk blissfully barefoot...
But there may be thorns in the grass!

    1. True. Now it's for us to decide whether to enjoy the prick of the thorn or encase our feet in comfy shoes as per the number on the sole.

  10. By that number on the sole
Are my feet to be defined?

Yes, why should the size be limiting the choices. One would want a comfortable feeling of perhaps a bigger size as wearing an over-sized shirt. But shoes don't allow this freedom. Very true Vander!

  13. Nice poetry. Thank God for our limits. Then we know when we are trying to get beyond them.

  16. Thought provoking poem. Shoe sizes are like our hard limits which cannot be changed
