Murder Of A Rose

From Google

His earnest gaze pierces my soul
His clasp tightening on my hold
Lips quiver in innocent appeal
Eyes brim with moistened gleam
Promises fake futile foolish
Douse me with glimpses of a
Wishful future and joyful overtures
My limbs slacken and heart topples
As I give in to his impassioned zeal
The very next moment strikes the dagger
Its stainless shine trickled with streaks
A bloody rose crimson in colour
Is wrenched apart from its anchor-twig
I can hear its silent screams from afar
I gasp and fume and slowly resume
My plaintive plea however in vain ....!

Its weird how symbiotically we merge in each other's being
Weirder still how we devolve into strangled cries and shaken faith

  1. Nice poem Ma'am. I feel it is written on the topic of exploitation in relationships like domestic abuse may be. But the poem is very stirring and piquant as well.

    1. Thanks, Ankita. Greatly encouraged. It is on the quixotic, unexpected, exploitative and contra elements of relationships highlighting the duality in excessive attraction which also results in sudden orbital detraction.

  2. 2 things are blind in this world, Love and Justice, and neither to our favor. Tragic for the protagonist, beautifully said.

    1. If you come to think of it Susan, weirdness is deeply enmeshed in normalcy as well.

  4. What a paradox that such a naturally genuine poem had to be categorized as weird merely due to demand of the prompt..
I beg to differ and my opinion may not matter but this terrifically awesome poem, without those two lines at the end which are added as an explanation, mystifies me with its aching charm which is far from weirdness. Apologies...

  5. You paint the extremes so well. This portion stood out for me:

    "rose crimson in colour
Is wrenched apart from its anchor-twig"

Seeing the likening to the relationship...nice work.

  6. Ah! The fatal attraction and its repercussions. So philosophically written Geetashree.

  7. I like the drama in this, throughout I saw the color red. Made me think of passion and betrayal and how we can kill beauty. Intriguing poem.
